Chinese chip maker Rockchip has unveiled its next-generation line of ARM-based processors for inexpensive tablets.

Rockchip tabletsThe Rockchip RK30xx processor is an ARM Cortex-A9 dual core chip which can run at speeds up to 1.4 GHz. It includes Mali-400 graphics and can support OpenGL graphics, 1080p HD video playback, HDMI output, and be able to handle dual-display setups.
Rockchip will begin offering samples to hardware partners in March, which means we could start to see tablets with the new processors later this year.
While Rockchip isn’t exactly a household name in the US, the company showed off more than 2 dozen Chinese tablets, portable media players, and related devices at CES this year.
Each was powered by the company’s earlier chips including the 1.2 Ghz RK2918 processor, and many of the tablets were running Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
